Monster of the Month: October

Vampires are mythological or folkloric beings who subsist by feeding on the life essence, blood. That is where I will end the formal definition of this creature. Vampires have been around forever, made popular by Bram Stoker's Dracula in 1897. To me vampires are the most varietal monster there is. They can be dressed up, dressed down, night walkers, day stalkers, each writer can put their own twist and many have.  For The Mona Chronicles the vampires subscribe the typical format. They drink blood, they can only come out at night, their eyes change color and teeth retract. Their faces do not turn bumpy like they did in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and they aren't overly gorgeous like the vamps in Twilight. They do not have souls or a conscience. They are lean, mean killing machines that only want to feed and sometimes multiply.Sam says that they are her favorite because unlike other creatures they can be killed with sunlight, a stake to the heart or by beheading and once they die they turn to dust so she has limited clean up. No body to hide or bury! The female vampire in the first book though had a very small part in the first chronicle will have a very important role in the future of the Mona's so stay tuned!
